Hydrotherapy combines three things: warm water, buoyancy, and targeted water pressure. Warm water relaxes muscles and supports circulation, buoyancy takes pressure off joints, and properly directed jets work into tight muscle groups in a way no rubdown can match.
The difference between a budget spa and a serious one is how well it actually delivers that targeted pressure — which comes down to jet design, jet placement, seat contour, and pump power.
A well-designed spa uses different jet types and placements to target specific muscle groups. Here’s what each one does.
Pulsing or directional jets ease the tension office workers know all too well — shoulders, traps, the base of the neck.
Deep-tissue style jets target stiff lower backs and the muscles either side of the spine — ideal after a long day on your feet or a tough workout.
Foot and calf jets are some of the most underrated. Standing all day? This is where you’ll feel the biggest difference, fastest.
A lounger is a full-body recline position with jets running from your shoulders down to your calves and feet. The massage is longer, fuller, and feels more like a proper therapeutic session. You stretch out, the buoyancy takes over, and the jets work the whole length of you.
Bucket seats sit you upright with focused jets on specific zones — typically shoulders, mid-back, lower back. The pressure tends to feel deeper and more targeted, ideal for working into specific knots.
Most family spas combine both, so everyone can pick their favourite spot. Worth thinking about how you’ll actually use it before you choose.
We’ve been engineering jet layouts, refining seat contours and tuning pump performance at our Hallam, Victoria facility since 1994. Every Just Spas spa benefits from that experience — jets that hit the right spots, seats that hold you in the right position, and pumps with the power to back it up.
Our Signature, Cyclone and LeisureRite ranges each take a slightly different approach. Tell us which muscle groups you want to work on and we’ll point you to the layout that suits you best.
Many of our owners say their spa quickly becomes the best part of their week. A 20–30 minute session is enough to take the edge off a long day; many find it helps with general muscle tension, post-exercise recovery, and the kind of wind-down you can’t really get from anything else. If you’re managing a specific injury or condition, talk to your doctor about whether hydrotherapy is right for you.
